re: Intel's new Processor
by Gerhart STC on 2012/04/30 6:34
I was just looking at the prices for the new Intel processors and saw some crazy deals at Microcenter for them. Just wondering if anyone has seen/used the new chips. I had a wishlist put together on Newegg with the old i7-Sandy Bridge and the costs are approximately the same for the chips.
Just wondering what STC's computer builders thoughts are...
Thanks,
Gerhart
PS I wanted to make sure that I made it so I could upgrade this computer as opposed to my last one where I could only add RAM due to the change from AM2+ to AM3 motherboards.

I just bought a 3820 from microcenter btw, and am loving it... I upgraded my computer with a revodrive for my boot disk and a 560 ti graphics card, and as I said a 3820 core I7 it all cost a fair amount of money, but it is running awesomely!! Microcenter is an awesome store to buy from as a local seller.

i-5 or i-7
for me it would depend on how long you wanna keep your machine
but you say you want to be able to upgrade
so i would go with the i-7
the reason is simple at the speed new and better component come out ,
when it comes time to upgrade a cpu usually the motherboard and the memory are almost obsolete too ....
faster motherboard and faster memory are avaible
not to mention they change those socket for the cpu so often
so upgrading a computer often means getting a better videocard and adding a litle memory if you go for the i-5 you could upgrade to a i-7 down the road but at that time the next gen of cpu and mother board will be out and probably wont be compatible with the stuff you already own
upgrading a motherboard only i never done unless i fryed it
