Class swap to Shaman

I am looking to swap over to my Alt Shaman (Milenage) for Season 4 and Dragon Flight as I have been enjoying playing enhance shaman. The shaman class trees look very good and I would like to play melee.

(Pros) What is gained by switching from Shaman:

Shaman brings a bunch of utility and a bit of off healing. The main pros are:

-Windfury Totem

-Tremor Totem

-Hex

-Melee class

(Cons) What is lost by switching from Hunter:

Hunter brings good damage and good CC. Overall I think Shaman has a bit more utility with similar CC. Main losses:

-Hunter traps

-Bursting shot for MM

-Range class

I have thought about doing the TLP servers when the next batch of them comes out. But I'm pretty attached to my characters on Povar. I believe if you logged into EQ2 you would find your characters to be on the Halls of Fate server now, as Unrest was merged into that server several years ago. Of course, I only know from what I have read, not what I have experienced, as I never had characters on Unrest in EQ2.

July 2022 STC Guild Meeting Notes

Welcome Saints to the July 2022 WoW chapter guild meeting! I have no idea where June went, but it feels like just yesterday we were celebrating Memorial Day. It certainly has felt like July when stepping outside.

On the WoW front, congratulations to our raid team for killing Heroic Jailer last week, securing AOTC in the process! That was an amazing accomplishment after only a few nights progressing on him. We then were able to run back another Jailer kill on Sunday with a classic 10-player raid that harkens back to days past in WoW’s history. I know there are a few people who were not in attendance at either kill, so I suspect we’ll be looking to kill him once or twice more before Season 4 begins.

Speaking of Season 4, we finally have a date for it to begin, and that date is August 2nd! Season 4 is going to be unique in that it isn’t bringing with it a new raid or any new dungeons, but does seek to shake things up with a new coat of paint on previous content. For raids, the three Shadowlands raid tiers will be scaled up to new item levels and adding mythic plus style affixes to add additional challenge. Each week will feature a different raid, with a three week rotation until the season ends. For mythic+, Blizzard is putting most Shadowlands dungeons on the shelf and dusting off some dungeons from the past.

There will be eight dungeons comprising mythic plus. The only returning dungeons from Shadowlands will be both wings of Tazavesh, Streets and Gambit. Joining them will be the returns of the BFA mega-dungeon, Mechagon Junkyard and Workshop, as well as the Legion dungeons Return to Karazhan, Lower and Upper. Rounding out the dungeon pool, Blizzard is mythic plus-afying Grimrail Depot and Iron Docks from Warlords of Draenor. These will come with a new season affix, Shrouded, as well as the usual item level bump.

The last bit of Season 4 news I wanted to touch on is that Valor and Conquest points will be reset when Season 4 launches. Season 4 will have no Valor cap from the start and the cap for Conquest will be higher than most seasons, but everyone will start with 0 of each when the season starts. You’ll want to spend as much of the currencies as you can on upgrades, crafting materials, or gear to send to your alts before August 2.

Looking further ahead, the next expansion, Dragonflight, has been getting a steady drip of news surrounding its release date and new features. A few weeks ago the expansion became available for preorder with an expected release before December 31, 2022. While many have been skeptical that a game which hasn’t even been released for public alpha yet will be ready in that time, the official word from Blizzard is that we will be in the new expansion before 2023, which is very exciting.

One of the major defining features of the expansion is a near total elimination of borrowed power systems in lieu of a return to RPG-style branching talent trees for each spec. For those who don’t know, a borrowed power system is a system that makes our characters more powerful for an expansion but does not follow us to the next expansion, such as Covenants in Shadowlands, Corruption in BFA, and Artifact Weapons in Legion. Blizzard has released early iterations of the talent trees for Death Knights, Druids, Priests, Rogues, and Hunters so far, which have calculators up on wowhead. There is no shortage of WoW content creators with opinion pieces on these talents if you are interested in checking those out; keep in mind these are an initial cut that are garnering a lot of feedback, so I would expect many if not all of them to change in significant ways before Dragonflight launches.

Officer Update

I am pleased to announce that Stonehammer is going to be joining the WoW officer team as my Senior Chancellor, SC for short. The SC is second in command on the WoW officer team, and he will be my right hand man to bounce ideas off and to provide another person you can go to on the officer team as necessary. He and Delph are currently on vacation, but will be back shortly so we can congratulate him.

Raiding Update

When taking over as SBC I knew things would be a little tough at first. I only joined the officer team not long before this and still felt like I was catching up trying to get a feel of how everything ran and how everyone was feeling. Now that season 3 is coming to a close and we have a few jailer kills under our belt with just a few more people needing aotc, I feel that I have a better understanding and feel it's a good time to talk about what I want to do for the future. I would like to ask anyone in the guild that is interested in being a member of the BC team to send me a tell in game or on discord or send me a mail message in game. I want to have a fresh BC team heading into Dragonflight and I want to use season 4 as a BC beta of sorts just to see how things go since season 4 is going to be much different than most seasons. I feel it will be a good time to talk to those interested and see how working with them will be.

Season 4 will consist of a different raid every week on a constant rotation in each of the 3 raids introduced in Shadowlands. Having those extra hands will be especially helpful because of this because we will never be fighting the same bosses again week after week. The plan IS to full clear the raids on normal at the start of the season and then switch to heroic as we get the achievement for downing each of them.

When Dragonflight rolls around then I will be picking 3 or 4 people to be part of the BC team rolling into the Dragonflight raids.

That being said I am really happy with how things have gone so far even with things starting out a bit slow, when we started to push for AotC full time I felt things went very well.

Once again I will just reiterate, if anyone is interested in being a member of the BC team just throw me a tell here in game or on discord or send me an in game mail and I will see how things go from there.

some of the benefits of this swap would be: another AMZ, a lot less mana spent healing me so more mana going to the group.

some of the losses of this swap are: losing ashen hallow, some off heals, and a st dps.

May 2022 STC Guild Meeting Notes

Welcome Saints to the May 2022 WoW Chapter guild meeting! I trust the weather has continued to improve for folks and you have been able to enjoy it. Here in Indy it felt like we should be building an Ark last week with all the rain we had. As we move into warmer weather, I will be trying to keep our guild meetings shorter, so people don’t feel chained to their computers as much.

On the WoW raiding front, we have made considerable progress in heroic. The open raid team has killed 7/11 while the Sunday progression team has added an Anduin kill to the tally as well. I am confident we’ll kill Anduin very soon with the open raid team with Rygelon and Lords of Dread kills to follow. AOTC is not far off.

Touching on smaller group content, we’ve seen a huge step up with key completion and timing in the mythic+ space within guild groups. We’ve always had a contingent of players who focus heavily on mythic+ who are timing 15s regularly, but now we’re starting to see more guild groups able to time +15s with higher frequency, which is awesome to see! This is great to push up the item level in our vaults and possibly more importantly, ensure we keep having +15 and higher keys available to run!

One final point I wanted to touch on before getting into inductions is a callback to a post I made several months ago on perspective. We have a wide variety of abilities and interests in the guild, and it’s one of the things that makes STC great. With that diversity comes a lot of different perspectives. While this is a big strength, it’s also one of our greatest weaknesses. We have players eclipsing 3,000 Mythic+ score and players who are struggling to time +7 keys. Please keep this in mind as we talk about how well we are doing or how poorly many of the players in your PUGs are doing. I want us to celebrate accomplishments and have a laugh at the sometimes-silly things players do in the game, but we need to be mindful of how those comments and how we carry ourselves might be perceived by other Saints. Oftentimes the first comment about a specific silly thing a player did will be fine, but the ensuing discussion which results in generalizing to a larger body of players is where the difference in perception from what you meant comes into play. Again, this is not me trying to stifle discussion or inhibit fun, just asking people to consider the perspective of players who may not be in the same level of progression as you today.

Officer Updates

As we have seen some pretty significant growth in our ranks over the past few months, it’s become apparent that our officer team has been spread a bit thin for the number of Saints logging into the game. In order to enable us to support all Saints, I am pleased to announce the raising of Lavacask to the position of General Officer. Unlike the existing officers, he will truly be filling the role of a general officer, helping with all facets of guild management wherever the need is greatest at the time. While initially I expect him to be most active in assisting the raid team, he will be dabbling in other areas as well. Please help me congratulate him on accepting this new responsibility!

Raiding Update

As most if not all of you know, Hantzu has a busy work traveling schedule in May which will keep him out of WoW for a little while. As a result, he will be taking a break from his SBC responsibilities until work calms down. He was unsure of his schedule after May so this break may extend longer, and as he or I can share more details, we will. In the meantime, the combination of myself, Gerhart, and Lava will ensure continuity in our raiding progress. For now, any final raiding decisions will fall to me.

April 2022 STC Guild Meeting Notes

Welcome Saints to the April 2022 WoW Chapter guild meeting! I trust everyone is starting to enjoy some warmer weather as we begin to depart from the dreariness of winter. Here in Rindy we’ve had seemingly nothing but rain for the past month, but at least I don’t have to shovel rain.

On the WoW front, we took down Lords of Dread, Rygelon, and the Jailer last night, which was amazing to see, especially since many of those in attendance hadn’t seen him before yesterday. Plowing through the final four bosses of a raid with nearly the full raid team is great progress, and I’m very proud of what we all accomplished. It won’t be long before we’re starting to clear these bosses on heroic and nearing AOTC.

Additionally, over the weekend, a handful of Saints put together a PUG for several of our alts to save a lockout with all the non-tier bosses dead on normal. This will enable us to kill only the tier bosses in normal since those items will be relevant for another month or two even as we start to get heroic loot at a more regular clip. Thanks to Hantzu for putting that together and for the Saints who came out to help us get that lockout! Note that having this lockout does not mean we are unable to kill other bosses even after we’ve killed those with tier if there are items that people still need from those bosses, it just gives us the flexibility to save time.

You may have seen that I referenced the normal tier pieces being relevant for another month or two. While the tier bonuses are so powerful for most specs that item level isn’t of concern, there is another exciting development coming up next week that will greatly help the acquisition of tier gear. The Creation Catalyst opens on April 12th, and this system will allow players to convert non-tier armor pieces into tier pieces for the cost of Cosmic Flux. The Creation Catalyst requires you to have completed chapter 4 of the Zereth Mortis campaign quest.

The way it works is that you will be able to transform any armor piece that you collected during season 3 from mythic dungeons (M0 or M+), PVP, or raid into a tier piece at the same item level and with any tertiaries (leech, avoidance, speed, indestructible, or a socket) the item had before conversion. On the PTR, the item level 246 gear purchasable with sandworn relics can also be converted, but it’s unclear whether that will be the case on live servers as well. For example, if you convert an item level 265 shoulder with leech you got from M+ into tier, the result will be an item level 265 tier shoulder with leech. Note that each tier piece has static secondary stats that will be converted when you use the catalyst. If your tier helm has crit/haste, any helm you convert using the catalyst will have crit/haste on it regardless what the secondary stats of the pre-converted piece were.

While the Creation Catalyst will open on April 12th, it requires charges that will accumulate over time in order to use. This means you will have to choose which pieces to convert first even if you otherwise have the items and flux to be able to convert more than one. The rumored rate of charge accumulation will start at one charge per week for the first three weeks, then gradually become more regular until we’re receiving one charge every other day.

One note about the tier sets and Creation Catalyst is that Blizzard did create tier pieces for slots that cannot be obtained in any other way, but those slots do not contribute to your set bonuses. The raid and great vault tier pieces drop for helm, shoulders, chest, hands, and legs, and these are the only pieces that include the power associated with the set bonus. Back, wrist, belt, and feet items all exist to complete the appearance, but they do not offer the set bonuses. If you do want the full appearance but value the set bonuses more, it would be wise to ensure you use the Catalyst to complete your set bonuses first, and then create the appearance only pieces.

I have two final notes about the Creation Catalyst to cover. First, for nearly every spec, achieving your two and four-piece set bonuses will give you a bigger bump in performance than any amount of item level or secondary stat distribution you could be sacrificing in those slots. Until you have your four-piece bonus, you will gain more power by creating a lower item level tier piece with awful stat distributions in a slot you don’t have tier on than to upgrade an item level 239 tier glove to an item level 278 tier glove.

Second, you may want to consider planning out which tier pieces fit best for your legendary slot choices and secondary stats for all the specs you want to play. Depending on what slots you want to put your legendaries on and what your ideal stat distribution would be, you may want to get all five slots with tier bonuses before upgrading the item level of a slot you already have so you can run different gear sets for different purposes. For instance, an ideal setup for me is to run my legendary unity item on my chest for kitty but since I would prefer to run my tanking legendary on legs for bear, that requires me to use the tier chest piece for bear. Again, I would not make this optimization until I have an ideal setup for kitty already, but I play bear in keys enough to justify crafting the tier chest before I worry about upgrading the item level from my normal tier pieces.

The final thing I wanted to say before I hand it off to Meesha for inductions is that we’ve brought back M+ night on Friday evenings again for anyone who wants to join. The event is scheduled to start at 8PM eastern time and we encourage everyone to sign up. We will form a raid group with all interested parties and then form competent groups out of those who sign up. If we get a multiple of 5 with requisite tanks and healers, we will get as many groups as possible going to start. If not, Meesha and I are usually good for at least two runs, sometimes three to swap in people who weren’t able to get into the first wave due to space or role limitations.

Crushed it - I'm a raid with two end bosses, the full group has already killed Anduin and the Sunday "learning" group has just cleared the jailer.

Address addons - add-ons have always been a part of the game. In recent years, they have been more and more "required " for boss fights but generally less powerful than they used to be. In vanilla, many could play your character for you! Today, they are primarily for information sharing

Weak auras - we have a boss where information sharing has become critical. We will continue to work on lords of Dread on normal without the weakaura required, but need all raiders able to communicate. Order of preference is 1) weakaura; 2) microphone; 3) typing

Method Raid tools- this will become a highly utilized yet optional addon. The main use case will be healer coordination but many other things will apply as well

February STC Guild Meeting Notes

Welcome Saints to the February 2022 WoW chapter meeting. Since we’ve last met, we’ve seen significant cold and snow in many parts of the country, and I hope that all have managed to stay safe, warm, powered, and internet-ed. For me personally, I sure did enjoy the snow a whole lot more when I didn’t have to shovel it.

On the WoW front, we’ve continued to see steady progress on Sylvanas with the full open raid, and the progression raid team notched another kill on her a couple weeks ago. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we need to make sure we’re keeping up with our consumables, including Veiled Augment Runes, Heavy Desolate Armor Kits, weapon oils/sharpening/weightstones, and whatever DPS increasing potion is best for your spec to pair with a big cooldown and/or heroism. It may not seem like much, but when the entire raid is amped up with these consumables, the DPS difference is significant.

On the smaller group front, I would really like to get some form of guild-organized mythic+ program going again. We’ve had mythic+ nights in the past, and while those always offered good fun and in some cases a chance for people to get timed keys at a higher difficulty, it was always very tough to organize and execute properly. With different experience levels and goals, it was always tricky to form groups that could achieve what they wanted in the key. Invariably what would happen is we would try to set up multiple even groups based on attendance, but that always resulted in all groups running a key around the same level, even though many in the group could and ideally would be running higher keys. In some cases, certain groups had been unable to even finish the key depending on the level of experience people were bringing to the dungeon. Whenever there was not an even multiple of 5 looking for a similarly-sized key, many Saints were disappointed with the outcome. I welcome any suggestions on how we can run such a program better than we have in the past.

Outside of groups, we’ve seen a steady stream of news about patch 9.2 and even the announcement of a patch 9.2.5. No, there is no release date on either, which is probably the biggest piece of news for both. I will avoid spoilers of the new content, but I will say that there are a couple significant system changes coming in patch 9.2 and it may affect how you want to go about gearing your character. Similar to with shards of dominations in 9.1 (have I mentioned I hate that system?), planning out which slot to put your legendary pieces on will be valuable. As usual, there is no requirement for you to do so to raid or run dungeons with other Saints, but it may help make your gearing as we get into the new content easier and more enjoyable. In case you didn’t know you can get the full soul ash and soul cinder cost back on any legendary you’ve previously crafted by talking with the Runecarver; you won’t get the base piece or missives back so you will need to bring fresh instances of those to make your new legendary/new slot, but at least you can avoid having to grind Torghast to get the currency as well.

Xenocide was inducted to full Saint during the meeting. Belixe was inducted prior to the guild raid on 2/8/2022.

Awards

Kenshunter was awarded the Duty award. This is awarded those that have proven that they value STC, its Values and most of all her People. They put the extra effort forth and donate their personal and in game time to help make STC what it is today. Ken was awarded this recognition for providing feasts and cauldron mats routinely, even as early as when he was a novice.

Raiding Update

Based on the recent survey of Saints, Mythic raiding and AOTC is still top of the priority list for folks. That is where we will put our focus. Additionally, we still are struggling with attendance during our Sunday night raids, and we encourage people to sign up for those raids.

WOW and FF Chapter Update

I wanted to announce to all that Dwelknarr has become the next LP of the WOW Chapter. Thank you, Dwelknarr for taking on this responsibility and providing leadership to the WOW Chapter. This move allows Fuldarr to focus where he is enjoying his time in FF as LP of the FF Chapter. I greatly appreciate Fuldarr for stepping in as LP for both Chapters for a short time and providing his fun and positive attitude.

Multi-Chapter Membership Policy & Guidance

If an individual joins STC in one chapter, they are a novice of STC as a whole. As such, should they choose, they can join STC's other chapters. The individual will serve their novitiate in the chapter that they initially joined and will be limited to one toon in the other chapters until their novitiate period is concluded. Should they choose to perform their novitiate in a different chapter than the one they applied to, they must petition both involved LP's with their request and reasoning. Only with the approval of both LP's can the transfer happen.

Newly raised Saints joining STC in one chapter will be encouraged to join STC in other chapters (not their primary) if they are playing in those games, but are not required to do so. If alts are on a different server or different type of server they can remain as changing servers/factions requires monetary investment, and we will not force our members to spend money to join us. If a novice or full Saint decides to bring their characters over to a Sanctioned STC server/server group, then we ask that those be non-guilded, guilded with a bank/family guild, or guilded with STC.

Should a novice fail to complete their novitiate period they may reapply at a future date to any active STC chapter. If a novitiate was not accepted into STC they may not reapply to any chapter for a minimum of 180 days.

Officers

No one person shall perform officer positions in more than one chapter for seats which require a substantial amount of in game time. Such positions include the LP, LoS, SBC, SAs, and BCs. Exceptions to this policy should only be made under special circumstances and require the approval of the GP and the LP's of each of the chapters for which the person wishes to be an officer.

A person may simultaneously hold officer positions in multiple chapters if the responsibilities associated with these positions do not require a substantial amount of in game time. In order for a person to simultaneously hold such officer positions in multiple chapters, it must first be approved by the LPs of each of the chapters for which the person wishes to be an officer.
