Sacrifice: Wikky

Part of what makes STC what it is, is the sacrifices made by others in multiple facets. Such facets include, time, crafting materials, passing on loot that is a bigger upgrade for others than themselves, teaching, helping run guild events.  In Wikky's case he has not only gone above and beyond helping others with crafting materials but has farmed the mats to take Saints on two attempts at the Alani mount.  Thank you Wikky!

Wikky has also scheduled another Alani run on Friday, May 9th at 10:00pm after the raid.  Please go sign up on the in-game calendar if you would like to attend!

Chancellors of Raiding

Friday Night Raid

Friday night Flex nights are our way to get as many people raiding with STC as we can.  We require that you have an item level of 501 or greater and are fully gemmed and enchanted (as well as hit and expertise capped).  While you can expect quick upgrades, we ask that all raiders meet these requirements.  Depending on the group, we sometimes decide to tackle a different Wing, although, generally we start with Wing 2 at a minimum.  This is highly dependent on the number of healers and if we need to bring Alts.  Also know that we can continue to provide Alt nights on Fridays if people want.

I want to remind people that forming non-BC groups for raids, especially for Alts is encouraged.  We do not want to limit what and how often people raid.  Know that you have limited attempts at item drops if you attend the same raid earlier in the week.

Sunday Night Raid

After getting Garrosh down several times, the Sunday night team has struggled to complete this raid the last few weeks.  One of the reasons for this is that the team changes which is due to the Flex raid.  We have different raiders as well as different numbers.  It's hard to know which one aspect is missing.  It also speaks to the complexity of the fight.  One really needs to be at the top of their game in order to get him down which is why we have high standards for the team that raids on Sunday nights.  Generally the BC's identify raiders based on the requirements already.  We are constantly looking at raiders to determine if they meet the requirements to complete the fights and extend invites.  If after reading this, you still want to be considered for this team, please talk to a BC.

Monday Night Raid

Monday night raids are the 10-man normal raids.  These are by invite only for those that meet the DPS/Tank/Healing requirements as chosen by the BC's.  Currently we have a rotation of DPS in this group since we have additional DPS.  The group has been able to get down the first 5 bosses of the raid so far.  This is a great accomplishment for those raiders.

I want to explain one thing about this group since people are not sure about Alts and why we focus on them generally.  In this group, I have decided to give up my spot in order to get another DPS in and have a DPSer switch to an Alt Healer who meets the requirements.  This is solely to get more people into the raid.  While it is not the ideal way since an Alt needs to be utilized, it is better than having more people sit.

Summer and End of Tier Raiding Lull

As you are all aware of, we have been raiding Siege of Orgrimmar for a while now and the raid can get stale.  Also, we are coming up on the nice spring weather which means people are doing more yard work as well as playing outside.  I see people are not responding to invites.  Responding earlier allows the BC's to determine which Wing we will likely tackle and which roles we will need people to fill by Main or Alt if necessary.  The BC's and I would like to keep our raids going so if there are any comments or suggestions, we are open and are willing to listen.

Mains vs. Alts Discussion

Why does STC focus on Mains vs. Alts?  One of the reasons is that it is very complex for raid leaders to look at multiple toons over multiple players.  In previous Tiers, we handled 10-mans and 2 raid teams where we often saw Alts and people's ability to field an Alt as well as your main.  With the advent of Flex raids, a Raid Leader's job is much more complex than in previous tiers.  They have to look at who signed up and determine the break point for number of healers.  Also, generally only 2 tanks are needed which sometimes requires a tank to switch spec (we have been lucky to have more than just the 2 min. tanks).  Focusing on the Main allows that toon to get upgrades and for the BC's to know the abilities on that specific toon and consequently for the team to form a synergy (and usually have all of the requisite buffs).  While I know some people are used to raiding on their Alts as a form of taking a break from the same old content, it does make it much more complex.  We have a post on Switching Raiding Mains.  All we ask is that people contact the BC's to make the change.  The toon that you are using to replace needs to meet the requirements of the group it is a part of.  This is often difficult because of the difference in item level.

Also note it is easier to have a FAIR system because if one person brings an Alt to a raid, then multiple people are going to request.  Again, if this is done in an orderly fashion, then the BC's/Raid Leaders are aware and can adjust.

This has been the process for STC since raiding Naxx [the second Naxx] (and maybe before but I was not here).  We have had a solid group which has made it through the content with the rules and guidelines we have in place.  Now it does not mean we cannot adjust, it just means we have been applying these rules and succeeding.  Again, with the new Flex system, it is a little more complicated and adjustments may be needed.  Please bear with us and help us move forward in providing a raiding environment that is both inclusive and challenging.

Discussions:

There was a suggestion for completing old raids within the current expansion.  The goal was to put all of SoO on farm for Friday nights and make Sunday nights sort of a "extra" night to tackle any content we wanted to.  This has not occurred but if people would prefer to do Alternative raids on Sunday nights, then that is what we can do.  The goal is to keep people coming to raids, whatever they may be.

A question was asked if we had polled members for their best nights to raid.  Yes, we had and the best nights were Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays.  Typically in the past, we had done at least one week night but that did not seem of interest.  The Friday night seemed the best night for most and that's why it became our "open" Flex raid night.  It is our intention to poll again prior to the next expansion as people's priorities and schedules change.  Note that we cannot accommodate everyone, but we do try to accommodate the greater number of people.

News

Zelsara has continued to run her weekly Saturday transmog and achievement runs with great success.  She is going to add a weekly Tuesday World Boss Tour at 7pm beginning May 13th!  Keep an eye out in the WoW Calendar (type /calendar to access it if you don't know how) and sign up if you're interested.  We'll start at Galleon, then move to Sha of Anger, Nalak, Oondasta followed by Celestials and maybe Ordos depending on time and amount of able Saints.
